Citizen's Responsibilities

Whether an event is private or open to the public, citizens are responsible for obtaining any necessary permits.

Special Event Requirements

An event permit is required for events taking place on public property, and event-related road closures/lane restrictions. Public park rentals and mobile stage rentals should be applied for separately. Examples: Block parties, street fairs, parades, organized runs/walks.

This permit is required for any opening or use of the public right of way. Examples: Utility work, sidewalk/driveway installation or repair, closure of alley, parking space, or lane(s) of traffic.

Apply for a Right-of-Way Use/Opening Permit.

Wilmington city ordinance requires a permit for any and all “home sales” which is defined as the sale of ten or more items of tangible personal property within any residential zoning district. Residents are limited to two home sales per year, which may last up to three consecutive days between the hours of 7:00 am and 7:00 pm.
