Wilmington Transit Achieves Record-Breaking Ridership in 40th Anniversary Year
Wilmington, OH — Wilmington Transit marked its 40th anniversary with unprecedented success, providing over 115,000 rides to residents in 2024, demonstrating the growing demand for public transportation in rural Ohio.
The transit system transported 115,355 passengers throughout the year, averaging 9,612 monthly riders and 320 daily passengers. This milestone reflects both the system’s operational excellence and its vital role in connecting residents to essential services, employment, and healthcare.
“These numbers represent more than just statistics – they’re about connecting our community,” said Nick Babb, Crew Leader at Wilmington Transit. “Our team of 45 drivers has worked tirelessly to ensure reliable, on-time service for every passenger.”
The achievement comes amid significant improvements to the transit system’s operations, including:
• Enhanced efficiency in pickup and drop-off procedures
• Maintained affordable fares at $2.00 for in-city travel
• Secured funding for fleet upgrades scheduled for 2025
• Expanded service capabilities through Ohio Department of Transportation funding
With support from the City of Wilmington and state transportation funds, the transit system is poised for further expansion in 2025. Plans include new vehicles and extended operating hours to meet the rising demand for public transportation in the post-pandemic era.
“As we’ve seen public transit usage increase since 2020, we’re committed to growing alongside our community’s needs,” Babb added. “The upcoming fleet upgrades will allow us to serve more residents while maintaining our high standards of safety and reliability.”
Wilmington Transit operates seven days a week, with extended weekday hours from 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM, and weekend service from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Residents can schedule rides by calling 937-382-7964.
Founded in 1984, Wilmington Transit provides essential transportation services to the Wilmington community.
