WILMINGTON PARKS AND RECREATION: A CORNERSTONE OF COMMUNITY SPORTS
The City of Wilmington recognizes its Parks and Recreation Department for fostering vibrant community sports programs that have become an integral part of daily life throughout Clinton County.
From David R. Williams Memorial Park to J.W. Denver Williams Jr. Memorial Park, residents of all ages gather daily to participate in sports and recreational activities that strengthen community bonds. The city’s parks serve as gathering spaces for everything from youth sports to community events.
Our parks are vital to community athletics in Wilmington. Every corner of the parks tell a story of connection. Grandparents cheer from bleachers as little league teams take the field, old friends catch up during their daily walks, and kids from different neighborhoods find common ground on the basketball court and play areas.
Sports programs continue to grow, offering inclusive recreational opportunities for residents of all abilities. These programs demonstrate the department’s commitment to ensuring that sports and recreation are truly accessible to everyone in the Wilmington community.
Thanks to a significant $15,000 donation from Wilmington Savings Bank and additional community support, construction will soon begin on new dedicated pickleball courts at the park. The courts will be constructed near the existing recreational facilities, making them easily accessible to residents. The project includes professional-grade surfaces and will be designed to accommodate players of all skill levels, from beginners to experienced competitors.
