Rombach Avenue Traffic Pattern to be Modified Effective May 12

Rombach Ave., Wilmington, OH –The City of Wilmington announces the removal of the traffic signal at the intersection of Rombach Avenue near El Dorado Mexican Restaurant and Valvoline Express Care, as part of an ongoing initiative to enhance safety and traffic flow along one of the city’s busiest corridors. The signal will become inactive on Monday, May 12, 2025.

A recent traffic engineering study conducted by the city determined that the signal is not warranted. The study showed that the traffic volumes traveling through the intersection were far from meeting the criteria to warrant a traffic signal. Further, an analysis of historical crashes at this intersection suggested that the removal of the signal will not negatively impact safety. The city believes removing the signal will reduce congestion and improve overall travel times through the Rombach Avenue corridor without compromising safety.

Beginning May 12, the signals will be disconnected and covered. The city is in the process of securing a contractor to remove the signals and poles. The final configuration will include updated pavement markings and signage to facilitate safe vehicle and pedestrian movement.

Drivers are urged to use caution during the transition period. The city will monitor the intersection closely following the removal to ensure safety and efficiency are maintained.

The City of Wilmington asks that all motorists be patient, reduce speed, and exercise added caution when traveling near this work zone. Questions regarding this project may be directed to the City Services Office (937) 382-6509.
